Who is Jim Li?

By Rebecca Sai

A Broadcasts Journalism/Economics student at the University of Southern California from Qinghaihu, Qinghai, China. An SAT Teaching Assistant born on September 6th, 1993. All of this personal information became available to me as soon as I looked up Xin Li’s facebook profile. Aside from his facebook, finding information on Jim was extremely hard to do. His facebook proved to be the most telling thing on the internet with his personal information, and even with that his information and opinions are still minimal.

On facebook, Jim posts very few words, and many pictures. Through his profile, I was able to discover that he has an honest passion for photography and likes to take a camera with him whenever he goes on a major trip. In addition, I gathered that he enjoys watching The Big Bang Theory, Family Guy, Tom And Jerry and reading Harry Potter.

Through some facebook stalking I was able to tell that he is currently enrolled in a class at USC called JOUR 330-- he has an album dedicated to the class where he documents his experiences with photos. Through the photos that Jim is tagged in, I can see that he was involved with ATVN here on campus. He’s also a part of the USC Annenberg Chinese Student and Alumni Association, as he publicizes their upcoming events. Jim may also do bike marathons- through his profile I was able to gather that he participated in CicLAvia.

Searching for Jim via google and other search engines was extremely hard, especially since there are many people with his name. In a search I did find his name listed on the USC Annenberg Fall 2013 and Spring 2014 deans lists, along with his name associated with Neon Tommy. Two articles came up, one he wrote about Taiwan’s Sunflower revolution and a story regarding the LA mayor.

I was also able to stumble upon Jim’s Linkedin page, where I got a detailed outline of his work experience. He is a member of the Asian American Journalists Association. According to his Linkedin page he was also a field producer assistant for International TV Channel Shanghai. He was also a market assistant and social media reporter for Elle Licensing in Shanghai as well. I think Jim does an awesome job with making only the information that he wants known about himself online. I couldn’t find any of his opinions or anything negative posted. An ideal digital footprint in my opinion!
